Additional Liner Notes:
"1989 and 1990 represent the turning of the third decade of Ben & Jerry's
Newport Folk Festival. From its inception, this great musical institution
has provided audiences with the best in traditional folk music as well as
the most important singer/songwriters and performers that
roots/contemporary music can provide. The very name "Newport" conjures up
a whole era in American music history -- the halcyon days of the 60's Folk
Festival, an age vibrant and alive with the energy of the civil rights and
anti-war movements, a time when people believed they could change the
world and actually did... a time filled with possibilities instead of
improbabilities. Under the able leadership of George Wein and his staff,
and the invigorating and enlightened sponsorship of Ben & Jerry's Ice
Cream, Newport retains its original vitality as it embarks on a glorious
fourth decade of music history. The first festival featured several
legendary performers among them was Pete Seeger, a man whose name has
become almost synonymous with the festival. Pete was among the founders of
Newport and it is to him that we dedicate this recording. Few other
figures of American folk music have had more impact on generations of
listeners than this tall and lanky peace warrior with a banjo.
-- Eric Bain Peltoniemi"
"This event was broadcast nationwide on American Public Radio."

provided by the National Endowment For The Arts."
Additional Liner Notes:
"Mountain Stage is a weekly, two-hour live performance radio program
broadcast nationally on more than 100 stations. We feature three or four
guest acts that defy categorization. We are an alternative show, a blues
show, a folk show, a World Beat show; we like Celtic music, Baltic music,
Art Rock, and funky New Orleans piano.
In our Second Volume we have some real treasures. These live performances
are like snapshots -- not posed and not touched up. We think you'll like
the pictures.
-- Larry Croce"
"This series is dedicated to the spirit and memory of two great
performers - Steve Goodman and Mary Bunetta."

version in having a truncated fade-out and also a slightly quicker tempo
(which may have unintentionally occurred during the CD mastering process).
