Additional Liner Notes:
"ChildLine is the first free national telephone helpline for children in
trouble and danger. It was set up as a registered charity on October 30th
1986, and launched on the BBC's 'Childwatch' programme.
The BBC programme drew a shocking picture of child suffering in Britain.
Over 3,000 people sent in their stories. They told of violence, of
neglect, of sexual abuse. Of private crimes, committed against children
not by strangers, but by members of their own family. They showed how
fierce the pain can be for the children and how long-term the damage.
Above all, they told of a child's terror of isolation, and of the
desperate need for somebody to talk to.
Now the children who are suffering the same kind of cruelty and pain can
ring ChildLine.
In it's first year of operation, ChildLine answered 160,000 calls from
frightened and unhappy children, and counselled over 20,000 children in
serious distress. On average, ChildLine receive 8,000 attempted telephone
calls each day whilst its team of counsellors and trained volunteers are
counselling about 700 children a day.
These numbers are expected to increase.
Obviously, to protect the children, ChildLine must be a freephone service.
A child can therefore make a call from a public telephone in a safe place
at a safe time and, very importantly, freephone calls from private phones
are not recorded on telephone bills. At present rates, the overall cost of
running ChildLine is about £9,000 daily with running costs for 1988 likely
to total some £3.3 million.
The more freephone lines ChildLine can keep open, the more children they
can help.
To this end, all profits from the sale of 'Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father' are
being directly donated to ChildLine.

Additional Liner Notes:
"Johnny Cash was the only Country and Western singer to make a stand
against the Vietnam War. He's also the only man I know who's been arrested
for picking flowers. Hillbillies, Teddylads, Acidheads and mass murders,
Johnny has played for them all. He speaks out for the little man (and I
don't mean Mickey Rooney). 'Til Things Are Brighter is a compulsive
collection of songs made famous by the Man in Black and performed by a
varied collection of contemporary Hillbillies, Teddylads, Acidheads and
mass murderers. It is both a tribute and a fundraiser; with ignorance and
bigotry so rife in certain elements of our society, AIDS is largely
ignored or thought of as some kind of punishment 'from above'. The
Terrence Higgins Trust is one of the few organisations getting to grips
with the AIDS issue and all profits from this LP will go to that trust,
and in the age of Clause 28 it doesn't look as though that ignorance is
about to fade.
Buck Hogarth. February 1988."
